How Does Your Garden (and Butterflies) Grow?

Yesterday I spent a few hours in the garden weeding. The boys were really good and played in the sandbox while I worked. We have been so busy lately that  the garden has been a tad neglected. I filled an entire wheelbarrow with the weeds that I pulled! Check it out!

And that wasn't even ALL the weeds, but I made really good progress. Our garden is making good progress too! We are starting to get some nice tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, onions and cucumbers. Our tomato plants are especially getting tall. They are taller than Jacob!

Today we spent some more time in the garden finishing up the weeding. Joe also clipped the tomatoes. I found that I could put the boys in the middle of the tomato plants and you could just barely see them.

How tall are the tomatoes, Jacob?

SO big! Ephraim was especially hard to find in there! I thought it was really funny that the tomatoes were taller than the boys, even after Joe clipped the tops off.

Ephraim is completely dwarfed by the plants! Once the ones on the front row get bigger you won't be able to see the boys in there at all!

In other news, we got something REALLY exciting in the mail today!

Jacob has wanted to watch caterpillars transform into butterflies for some time, but I have never managed to find any. They actually sell caterpillars online, so my mom was kind enough to get some for us.

We got five painted lady caterpillars and a butterfly habitat in the mail. The boys were completely fascinated by the caterpillars. They both wanted to hold the cup and watch the caterpillars move around and eat their food.

We can't wait to watch our caterpillars turn into butterflies! It should take about two weeks and then we will have some beautiful butterflies that we can release into our yard. It is going to be awesome!

Thanks Grandma Heiner for getting us the caterpillars! It has definitely given us something fun to look forward to!
