What a weekend! I left work early on Friday to help Daddy pack for our trip to Star Valley. We got the car all packed, and I was amazed that for such a little person, you sure need a lot of stuff. I think we packed twice as much stuff as we usually do. :o) I gave Daddy a haircut, and then gave you a bath. Then we got in the car and headed north.
We only drove to Logan on Friday and stayed with Uncle Greg and Aunt Jeanette. They needed our help because they were returning my parents’ camping trailer, and their truck would only fit 3 people. So they needed us to take either Kaylee or Autumn in our car to Star Valley. Plus my parents were giving Jeanette and Greg their old pickup truck, so they would be able to take everyone home.
It took us twice as long as it normally does to get to Logan because of all the traffic. I guess we should have expected it on Labor Day weekend, but we thought we left early enough to avoid the worst of it. We were in traffic so long that I ended up feeding you a bottle in your carseat, which worked out better than I expected.
By the time we got to Logan, Daddy and I were hungry so we stopped at Chili’s for dinner. You were happy to get out of your carseat for a while, and we had a good dinner. Then we went to Jeanette and Greg’s house. We had a good time at their house that evening, even if we had to keep intercepting your cousin Autumn. She seemed to think that your binky belonged to her, and would try to take away from you. She is crawling around, which makes her much more mobile than you. She also doesn’t quite understand that you are too little to play with like she plays with her older sister Kaylee. She tried once or twice to crawl over you or lean on you, but your daddy and I kept you safe. :o)
We slept in the basement of the Kirkham’s house, and the next morning we headed to Star Valley. Your cousin Kaylee rode with us in our car. We fed you before we left, and when we were about 20 minutes down the road you pooped in your diaper. We could smell you from the front seat! So we stopped in Preston, ID to change your diaper. We were trying to stay with Jeanette, Greg and Autumn in their truck, but we lost them then. We didn’t catch up with them until we were nearly to Grandpa and Grandma Heiner’s house.
Grandpa and Grandma Heiner were so happy to see you. They both were surprised at how much you have grown, and what a big boy you have become. Aunt Deanna came over that afternoon, and she brought your cousins Marissa and Braydon with her. Braydon is walking now, so he wasn’t interested in crawling over you. He did think that the toys we brought for you were pretty fascinating though, and you enjoyed some of the toys that were at Grandma’s house.
You did great at Grandpa and Grandma’s, even though you aren’t used to having that many people around or being in such a noisy place. Daddy helped Grandpa and Grandma with their computers, and I mostly just talked with my family and watched them play with you. It was fun. Grandpa and Grandma held you as much as they could and commented on what a cutie you were.
On Sunday we went to church with my parents and the Kirkhams. Since Grandpa is in the Bishopric and Grandma leads the music, we didn’t get to sit with them. But we made faces at them, and you got bored with the meeting and fell asleep.
After church, Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma Heiner came over for dinner (and Aunt Deanna and her kids). Your Great-Grandparents had never met you before, so they were excited to see you. They both had a good time holding you, and said that you were a handsome boy. Here are some pictures of you with them:
We also had some pictures of our little family taken. We don’t usually have someone else around to take a picture of us as a family, so it was nice to have Grandpa Heiner take our picture. Here is a pretty nice picture of us:
We also took a four generation photo, and one with all the boys:
We took a lot of pictures this weekend, which was fun. We also took some short video clips of you. One exciting thing that happened was that you gave us your first really good laugh. Your Aunt Deanna was saying peek-a-boo at you and you laughed and laughed. It was SO cute, and it made my heart very happy to hear your adorable little laugh.
Monday we had to head home. We decided to drive through Evanston, Wyoming this time which turned out to be a bad idea. Apparently there was a huge traffic accident on the Wyoming/Utah border and the freeway was like a parking lot. So we stopped in Evanston to eat and get a map at Wal-Mart. We shunned the freeway and took some little back roads and almost got lost, but we made it to Coalville and the freeway eventually. It went pretty well from there. But it took us 2 hours longer to get home than it normally does. By the time we got home, you were pretty tired of being in your carseat. I spent most of the end of the trip in the backseat with you, trying to keep you amused. We were all pretty tired, and glad to be home.
It seems that you have caught another cold this weekend. You have had a bit of a stuffy nose, but I’m sure you will get better soon. Your daddy and I love you so much, and we enjoy playing with and taking care of our Bubby.
